The firearm and ammunitions police found on the suspect photo supplied
Pretoria Central Police Station Commander Brigadier Hlengani Mashaba has welcomed the arrest of a 26-year-old male suspect for possession of an illegal firearm and live ammunition on Thursday.
This after the police crime prevention team received a tip-off about a man who was terrorising members of the Central Pretoria community with a firearm.
The suspect was arrested at corner Sisulu Street and Read Avenue after being searched and found in possession of a Z88 9mm calibre gun with a magazine loaded with 12 live rounds hidden in his waist.
After being interrogated, the suspect failed to produce the firearm’s license or any valid documentation allowing him to carry the firearm.
He was then charged and detained at the Pretoria Central Police Station.
The said firearm will be sent for ballistic analysis for further investigations and the suspect will appear in the Pretoria Magistrate Court soon.
Brigadier Mashaba has urged the community to adhere to the Firearms Control Act 60 of 2000 which states that those who want to possess gun licenses must be fit, mentally stable and not dependent on substances.
