The newly appointed Chairperson of the Section 79 Oversight Committee for Environmental Management, Cllr Hluphi Gafane, has outlined her vision and approach to transform and enhance the effectiveness of the Section 79 Committee, particularly by fostering a collaboration with all the committee members, regardless of political affiliation.

The importance of the committee cannot be overstated, as it plays a crucial role in safeguarding the environmental integrity of the City of Tshwane for present and future generations.

The primary goal of this committee is to create an environment where all members work together effectively, even when we have differing views.

“I am committed to working with all committee members, including the opposition, in spirit of unity and cooperation.

I believe that if all members come to the table with the intention to work towards the greater good, we can overcome differences and focus on our shared
responsibility to improve Tshwane’s environmental and agricultural health.

However, achieving this requires commitment from all members to attend meetings and to contribute constructively.

The foundation of our committee’s success depends on ensuring that we have a quorum at every sitting.

We must prioritize the importance of regular attendance and active participation to move forward,” said Chairperson Gafane.

The Environmental Agricultural Management Committee is integral to the City of Tshwane’s growth, sustainability, and resilience.

Their work directly influences the well-being of citizens, the preservation of biodiversity, and the mitigation of environmental risks, including
climate change, waste management, pollution, and water conservation.

By addressing these issues proactively, it ensures that Tshwane remains a safe, healthy, and thriving place to live and work for its residents.

The Chairperson believes that strengthening the committee’s ability to serve the citizens of Tshwane through collaboration, responsible decision-making, and strict adherence to environmental laws.

“Together, we can make meaningful strides in protecting our environment, fostering sustainability, and improving the quality of life for all residents.

I look forward to working alongside each of you to achieve these goals,” she concluded.
