A Mamelodi man has been arrested after he went beserk in the early hours of Sunday morning whereby he shot his own brother, a woman and two co-workers.

According to the man’s father, the incident happened at around 3am and they as the family are still baffled by the whole incident and are searching for answers.

It is alleged that the man had an argument with some woman in the backyard room of his parents’ house in Mamelodi East and his mother tried to intervene, but the man pushed her away violently, leading to his younger brother trying to restrain him and cautioning him to obey his mother’s advice to stop fighting with the woman.

The fight between the arrested man and the woman was apparently over money, this as the arrested man shouted over and over again to the woman that she must give him his money back.

It is alleged that at that stage the man pulled out his gun and shot his own brother on the thigh before running after his mother who was hiding in a room, where he shot several bullets at the door of the room.

From there the arrested man went back to his room and shot the woman twice on the left breast and once in the stomach.

The beserk man then drove away to his place of work at Midrand, where he also shot two of his co-workers before burning down their cars.

“We are sad and surprised because we don’t know him as a violent person, and we didn’t even know that he owned a gun,” said the father.

“It was actually the first time that we had seen him involved in a fight with anyone in our yard or anywhere else,” said the father.

“He is so much loved in the community and people respect him, and now they are surprised that he is the one involved in this ugly incident,” said the father.

The arrested man, according to his father, returned from work as usual and after changing from his uniform into civilian clothes, he went to a wedding with friends in Mamelodi West and the next time they saw him again was when he was involved in a fight with a woman inside the backroom.

The father said he had to drive his iniured son to hospital and the woman’s friends also arrived and drove the injured woman to hospital as well.

The woman is in a critical condition in hospital at the moment while the shot brother is stable.

The man was arrested on the very Sunday and was expected to appear in court this week.
