The City of Tshwane electricity team bakkie was burned and two employees attacked by unknown men while repairing a faulty cable next to Atteridgeville Primary Substation on Friday.

The two men were unharmed physically. The electricity team had cables at the back of the bakkie during the attacked.

Speaking to eyewitness who refused to be named told the Tshwane Talks that the two men were busy fixing cables at the substation and out of nowhere a group of men came out of nowhere with a car and with no number plates and started to attack them and telling them to stop working and burned the bakkie with electricity cables inside the bakkie.

“’I was scared to witness that, and I can’t believe it happened right in front of my eyes and I wish the people who did this must be arrested,” eyewitness refused to be name said.

He said the four men after doing this gruesome crime and they drove off as if nothing happened.

It is alleged the people behind this attacked are the municipality workers demanding their wage increase.

City of Tshwane worker who wished to remain anonymous said coming to work is a risk for them and they don’t know if they will return or not.

Every time they have to attend to service delivery issues is between life and death because we don’t know what the criminals are planning and what they will do if they find them working.

City of Tshwane spokesperson Selby Bokaba confirms that the switching team has been attacked, bakkie burnt on the corner of Citron and Church Streets.

The team was repairing a faulty cable next to Atteridgeville Primary Substation. The two employees weren’t physically harmed.
