LETTER TO OR TAMBO
The late OR Tambo former president of ANC
By Sello Mashula

Dear Baba OR Tambo,
I am writing this letter with a heavy heart, wishing with all my soul that you could rise on your birthday, today, even just for a moment, to see what has become of the African National Congress today.
The movement you nurtured, disciplined, and led with such fierce integrity and selflessness is barely recognizable.
If you look at our streets and our communities today, you will see a heartbreaking sight.
The freedom we fought so hard for has not translated into dignity for the
majority of our people.
Millions of South Africans are suffering without work.
The youth, who should be the backbone of our economy, are sitting at home with no
hope and no jobs.
Even the most basic human rights are a luxury now.
People go days, weeks, and sometimes months without running water in their homes.
Women and children are still carrying buckets, searching for dry communal taps, while the infrastructure crumbles around them.
The most painful part, Baba, is the corruption that has infested your beloved
organisation from the top down.
The revolutionary morality you exemplified has been replaced by greed.
Today, public funds meant for schools, hospitals, and infrastructure are being looted without shame.
Worst of all, the spirit of selfless service is gone.
Your party members no longer ask how they can serve the people.
Instead, before they provide any basic service, they ask, “What is in it for me?”
It has become a transactional party where leadership is bought, and public service is treated as a personal business venture.
We miss your discipline, your ethics, and your unwavering love for the poor.
Thenation is crying out for the values you stood for, because the ANC of today has
forsaken them.
Yours in deep sorrow,
SPPSA President
