Police in Mopani District are investigating two separate rape cases involving vulnerable victims in Letsitele and Ritavi.

On 05 October 2026 at about 19:40 at Rwanda Village, a 28-year-old woman with a mental disability was allegedly dragged to the bushes by a 46-year-old man, sexually assaulted and given R50.

The 46-year-old suspect was arrested on 07 October 2026 and will appear in the Nkowankowa Magistrate’s Court on 08 October 2026.

In a second incident on 10 August 2026 at Mariveni Village, a 25-year-old man with a mental illness was allegedly raped by a known suspect.

The case was reported on 06 October 2026.

The 31-year-old suspect was arrested on 07 October 2026 and will appear in the same court on charges of rape.

Both cases are investigated by the FCS Unit.

The Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Jan Scheepers, condemned the attacks.

“We strongly condemn these cowardly acts against vulnerable persons who cannot defend themselves.

Our communities must protect persons living with disabilities,” said General Jan Scheepers.

“I commend the FCS Unit for the swift arrests.

I urge anyone with information on abuse of vulnerable persons to report it immediately,”he added.
