MULTIPLE SHACKS DESTROYED IN EARLY MORNING FIRE AT CENTURION INFORMAL SETTLEMENT

The City of Tshwane Emergency Services Department responded to a shack fire at
an informal settlement in Centurion during the early hours of this morning.

The Emergency Communication Centre received the emergency call in the early hours of the morning, prompting the immediate dispatch of firefighting resources from nearby fire stations.

Upon arrival, firefighters found multiple shacks engulfed in flames and immediately initiated firefighting operations to contain the blaze and prevent it from spreading to neighbouring structures.

Through the swift and coordinated efforts of the firefighting crews, the fire was
successfully brought under control and extinguished.

One patient sustained minor injuries and was treated on scene by emergency medical
personnel. Fortunately, no fatalities were reported.

The number of shacks affected is still being assessed as firefighters continue with overhaul operations to ensure that all hotspots have been extinguished and the scene has been declared safe.

City of Tshwane’s Disaster Risk Management Division conducted assessments and provided assistance to families who have been displaced by the fire.

The City will continue to work with all relevant stakeholders to ensure that the affected residents receive the necessary support.

Residents are also urged to remain vigilant during the winter months and to adhere to
fire safety guidelines to reduce the risk of preventable fires.
