As a concerned South African, activist and public interest advocate, I am calling upon investigative journalists and media organisations to urgently investigate a number of serious allegations concerning the Lindela Repatriation Centre in Krugersdorp.

The purpose of this statement is not to assert these allegations as established facts, but to encourage independent investigation into matters that, if substantiated, could have significant implications for public safety, governance and accountability.

The allegations include the following:

1. Management of Lindela

It is alleged that following the voluntary liquidation of Leading Prospect Trading, the management of the Lindela Repatriation Centre was assumed by Enviromongz, with Mr.

Papa Leshabane and Ms. Jacqui Aquila Leyds continuing to oversee the facility. Questions arise as to the contractual arrangements, procurement process and legal authority under which this transition occurred.

2. Alleged Radioactive Contamination

It has been alleged that Lindela was constructed on land affected by radioactive contamination.

It is further alleged that officials associated with the relevant nuclear authorities were induced to issue a certificate indicating that the contamination had been addressed, despite claims that the underlying environmental concerns remain unresolved.

If these allegations are true, they raise serious questions regarding the health and safety of detainees, employees and surrounding communities and deserve urgent scrutiny.

3. Firearms and Regulatory Compliance

It is alleged that firearms are kept and utilised at the Lindela Repatriation Centre.

This raises important questions requiring investigation:

– Does the entity currently managing the facility possess all licences and legal competencies required to manage firearms?

– Are all firearm control and security regulations being complied with?

– Does the current management satisfy every contractual and statutory requirement necessary to operate a facility of this nature?

These questions deserve clear answers from the relevant authorities.

Lindela is a facility of national importance.

The public has a legitimate interest in knowing that it is being managed lawfully, safely and transparently.

I therefore call upon investigative journalists, oversight institutions and relevant regulatory authorities to thoroughly investigate these allegations and report their findings without fear or favour.

Where allegations are unfounded, the truth should clear the names of those concerned. Where wrongdoing is uncovered, those responsible should be held fully accountable.

Transparency strengthens public confidence, while silence only fuels speculation.
