DA Shadow MMC for Finance in the City of Tshwane Municipality Jacqui Uys met SAPS investigators at the Pretoria Central Police Station on Thursday, to provide further evidence regarding Deputy Mayor/ MMC for Finance Eugene Modise’s “corruption case.”
The meeting took place at the request of the SAPS investigators.
“The DA originally exposed Deputy Mayor Eugene Modise for unlawfully benefitting from Municipal contracts, and the DA and remains committed to ensuring accountability, transparency and clean governance in the City of Tshwane Municipality,” read a statement submitted to the media by the DA on Thursday.
“No public representative should be allowed to benefit improperly from public funds or abuse their position for personal gain,” read the statement further.
Addressing the media outside the Pretoria Central Police Station, Uys said the following:
“We have been asked by SAPS investigators about the steps and processes that we have followed regarding Deputy Mayor Modise’s corruption case and those steps include the outcomes of the City’s own investigation as well as the findings of the Public Protector,” she said.
She emphasised that she doesn’t want to make speculations about the case but that she would rather let the facts on the table speak for themselves.
“The facts on the table are that the City’s own investigation has found two things; namely that Modise did not declare that he has an interest in Triotic Protection Services and that he is still benefiting financially from Triotic Protection Services in two ways,” explained Uys.
“The first finding of the City of the Tshwane investigation revealed that Triotic Protection Services still pays him ( Modise) rent and the second finding is that he can not produce a sales agreement even though he claims to have sold his shares in Triotic Protection Services,” said Uys.
She said even if there was a sales agreement regarding Modise having sold his shares, the said agreement is based on instalment payments, which means Modise is still benefiting.
“This case against Modise is about corruption; about Modise putting the City of Tshwane Municipality under prejudice by not declaring his interests in Triotic Protection Services and making the City of Tshwane Municipality to continue to pay a supplier (Triotic Protection Services) wherein one of its senior politicians is benefiting,” enthused Uys.
Deputy Mayor-cum-MMC for Finance Eugene Modise has over the years in his correspondence with Tshwane Talks maintained that the allegations levelled at him by the DA are devoid of any truth whatsoever.
