Gauteng Premier Panyaza Lesufi has given MEC for Education Matome Chiloane the proverbial sack, and long-serving Lebogang Maile will replace him in that position as he will be leaving the Gauteng Department of Finance.
From now hence the Finance Department will be headed by EFF member Nkululeko Dunga, who had previously worked as MMC for Finance at the Ekurhuleni Municipality.
Lesufi announced these changes at a media conference held in Johannesburg on Wednesday.
He said the changes were made after broad consultations with the national leadership of the ANC as well as all parties that are represented in the Gauteng Province Legislature.
It will be the first time that an EFF member will be assuming the position of MEC in the Gauteng Legislature, because up to now the party had only been playing the role of being the opposition there.
Other changes entail Faith Mazibuko moving from the Department of Social Development to that of Health.
Nomantu Nkomo- Ralehoko will then move from the Department of Health to the position of MEC for Social Development.
Vuyiswa Ramokgopa of Rise Mzansi will remain in her position as MEC for Agriculture and so will Tasneem Motara who will continue with her job at the Gauteng Human Settlements Department.
Lesufi added that the changes were made with the aim to bring about stability in governance and also in service delivery in the province of Gauteng.
