Berieved families of murder victims Gift Maseko and Mokete Ntladi want answers from the police regarding what actually led to the deaths of their loved ones Gift Maseko and Mokete Ntladi.

Gift Maseko and Mokete Ntladi were friends.

They were both killed in a hail of bullets on Saturday morning in Phase 1, Far East of Mamelodi next to Mamelodi’s main road called Tsamaya.

“As the Maseko family we are aggrieved by the death of our son Gift Maseko who died tragically during the wee hours of last Saturday morning near a hardware store in Phase 1, Far East of Mamelodi,” said Maseko’s distraught aunt Soni Mabunda in an interview with Tshwane Talks during Maseko’s spiritual repatriation ceremony at the site where he was murdered.

She described Gift Maseko as a kind, ever-smiling loving person who cared a lot about his family and was on the verge of going into business with his father as he had passed his Matric in 2025.

Soni Mabunda explained that Gift Maseko’s father regarded Gift as his pride and joy as he had fathered him late in his life.

According to Soni Mabunda, Gift Maseko (21) was in a car with his friend Mokete Ntladi who was shot and killed with seven bullets and when he (Gift) tried to escape from the car, he was shot and killed with three bullets.

John Tlaka, who is the cousin of the murdered Mokete Ntladi (22), told Tshwane Talks that as family they are still aggrieved by the death of Mokete Ntladi.

“I am appealing to the police to do their work and make sure that such tragic shooting incidents come to an end in Mamelodi once and for all,” said Tlaka.

“We were expecting a lot from Mokete Ntladi and at the moment I am unable to cope in life as a result of his death and Mokete wanted to be a teacher in future,” he said.

“We want the police to make proper follow-ups regarding the case so that as family we can find closure and know exactly what led to the death of Mokete and his friend Gift,” he said.

The memorial service of both Mokete Ntladi and Gift Maseko was held jointly at the Stanza Bopape Community Hall in Mamelodi East Extension 5 on Wednesday 21 January .
