Hundreds of people from various organisations, trade unions and political parties gathered outside the United States of America (USA) embassy on Thursday.

This in protest against the USA’s invasion of Venezuela and the subsequent capture of that country’s president Nicolas Maduro and his wife Celia Flores on 3 January 2026.

The protest was led by the South African Communist Party, which is an ally of the ANC which in itself has already denounced USA President Donald Trump regarding the incident.

COSATU, ANC Youth League, NEHAWU, Africa 4 Palestine, POPCRU and the South African Latin America Association joined the SACP in the protest at the USA embassy.

President Maduro was kidnapped and forcefully flown out of Venezuela to stand trial in New York City, USA on accusations of being an international drug dealer who sold drugs to citizens of the USA.

The protestors took a solidarity walk in the street housing the USA embassy while dancing and singing revolutionary songs against the USA.

“We joined civil society, political parties and trade unions outside the United States of America embassy in protest against the bombing and attacks on Venezuela, and the kidnapping of the President of Venezuela Maduro and his wife Celia Flores, and we are here to say the United States is not above the law and that international law and the United Nations charter were violated this past weekend by the USA; we insist that international law must be respected by all countries and not only African countries or poorer countries,” said leader of the South African Latin American Association Mohammed Khan.

“The second reason we are here today is that we would like to send a message to the people of Venezuela to say we are with them because countries like Venezuela are some of the countries that helped South Africa during the days of apartheid,” he said.

“In the past Iraq and Iran were attacked, today it’s Venezuela and tomorrow this same fate may befall South Africa with trumped up charges of genocide against white Afrikaaners,” said Khan.

“The territorial integrity of Venezuela is enshrined in the United Nations charter and the USA has crossed the red line by invading it and capturing its president, which means they can do this abominable act anywhere in the world again,” said a fuming South African Communist Party General Secretary Solly Mapaila.

“The USA has over the years since 1947 attacked and removed sitting leaders of over 70 counties and this is the worst record, particularly by a country which regards itself as a land of liberty while in actual fact it is a land of oppression and narcissists with a president who is a paedophile that engages in sex with young girls,” said Mapaila.

“Donald Trump is waging a war against Venezuela so as to divert the attention of the world from the fact that he is a paedophile who is cutrently mentioned in criminal files that involve his fellow paedophile Jeffrey Epstein,” he said.

“Trump must know that he won’t live forever and that his actions will soon catch up with him,” he said.
