The Democratic Alliance (DA) notes the visit by Executive Mayor Moya to Jubilee Hospital, an endeavor to play oversight and engage patients affected by Typhoid Fever.

We encourage the Mayor to be open and transparent about her visit and share full details of her oversight.

The same opportunity was denied to DA Councillors by the CEO of the hospital, who has now made it clear that he is a political player rather than a hospital administrator.

The Mayor’s visit shouldn’t only be for cameras, as she is popular known for posing for social media photos and videos, but should be a meaningful visit that will yield results on the ongoing Typhoid Fever challenges.

One solution that the DA believes will be a permanent solution is reducing reliance on water tankers that service the Hammanskraal area.

The Mayor must complete the project of the package plant with Magalies Water.

This project was established by former Mayor Cilliers Brink in his efforts to provide permanent solutions by bringing water to the taps of Hammanskraal residents and eradicating water tankers.

It is clear that under Moya’s administration, there is no appetite for the completion of this project.

The DA questions why Mayor Moya has stalled the completion of the package plant project, leaving residents vulnerable to water-borne diseases like Typhoid Fever.

It is unacceptable that the administration has failed to prioritize the health and well-being of Hammanskraal residents, who have been forced to rely on inadequate water tankers for far too long.

The DA demands that Mayor Moya provide a clear timeline for the completion of the project and take immediate action to address the water crisis in Hammanskraal.

Furthermore, the DA believes that Mayor Moya’s failure to complete the package plant project is a clear indication of her administration’s lack of commitment to delivering basic services to residents.

The people of Hammanskraal deserve better than empty promises and photo opportunities.

They deserve access to clean water, sanitation, and healthcare.

The DA will continue to hold Mayor Moya and her administration accountable for their failures and will continue to fight for the rights of all residents to basic services.
