City of Tshwane Mayor Dr Nasiphi Moya has dismissed allegations made in the media about the City of Tshwane having spent R777 million on supplying Tshwane residents with water by using water tankers as a myth.
Her refutal of the R777 million expenditure on water tankers follows damning allegations which suggest that senior officials in Mayor Moya’s own Mayoral Committee as well as high-ranking ANC cadres in the City of Tshwane are the ones benefitting from tenders awarded to the providers of water tanker services.
Allegations in this regard also suggest that expenditure on water tankers has risen to 445% since Moya took over as City of Tshwane Mayor in October last year.
Concerned stakeholders like the DA opine that instead of the Municipality spending millions and millions of rand on water tankers, the money should be used on building or refurbishing direct water supply infrastructure to the residents of Tshwane.
“The R777 million expenditure on water tankers circulated in the media is based on SAP Financial Management and it reflects the total value of purchase orders (POC),”said Mayor Moya at the media briefing on Thursday.
