Operation Dudula is neither surprised nor shaken by the recent revelations from the Office of the Presidency regarding the large-scale theft and smuggling of South African medical supplies, including life-saving antiretroviral (ARV) drugs.

For years, we have warned that granting access to illegal immigrants is tantamount to theft from South Africans and drains our healthcare system, robbing poor South Africans of access to
essential medication.

We welcome the Presidency’s confirmation that the theft of ARVs and other medicines is not isolated but part of a broader pattern of organized criminal activity.

This development vindicates Operation Dudula’s consistent position that the looting of state resources and the abuse of public healthcare facilities are being driven, in part, by unchecked illegal immigration and weak border controls.

We are, however, disturbed by the irresponsible remarks made by the Minister in the Presidency insinuating that condoms are “fine” to steal.

Such statements are not only reckless but deeply insulting to South Africans who suffer daily because of corruption,
theft, and collapsing public services.

No theft is ever acceptable, and certainly not when it involves state property meant to save lives.

Operation Dudula calls on the cabinet to take firm action, not only against those stealing medicines but also against the illegal immigration networks that enable such crimes.

South Africa’s borders must be secured, accountability must be enforced, and every government department must play its role in restoring the rule of law.

We make it clear: Operation Dudula does not echo calls for illegal immigrants to simply “behave.”

The time for gentle reminders is over.

There must be a full-scale crackdown
on illegal immigration, criminal syndicates, and the corruption that allows them to thrive.

Operation Dudula remains steadfast in defending the sovereignty of South Africa and ensuring that national resources serve their rightful beneficiaries-South African citizens.
