The City of Tshwane welcomes the visit of MEC Jacob Mamabolo to Region 4 for an
inspection of the four most critical sinkholes affecting the area, including the newly formed sinkhole the 63rd to date.

The site visit was conducted in collaboration with key stakeholders, including the Provincial Department of Infrastructure Development (DID), the Department of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs (COGTA), Disaster Management, the City’s Roads Department, as well as leading geologists and the Chief of Emergency Services.

This engagement reflects our shared commitment to ensuring the safety of our
communities through proactive, coordinated interventions.

Sinkholes pose significant risks to infrastructure and public safety and addressing them demands unified efforts
across all spheres of government and technical expertise.

This inspection is part of a series of engagements aimed at resolving this challenge with urgency.

Through continued collaboration, thorough assessments, and strategic action, we reaffirm our determination to restore affected areas and implement sustainable solutions that safeguard both residents and infrastructure.

Ultimately, this collaboration strengthens the case for the sinkhole crisis to be recognised as a national disaster a move we hope will unlock the necessary, additional resources to comprehensively address the situation.
