Residents of Hammanskraal, I am pleased to give a positive update regarding the restoration of the water supply to the Temba area from Temba Water Treatment Plant.
On Wednesday, I visited Temba Water Treatment Plant, accompanied by the MMC
for Utility Services, Cllr Frans Boshielo, and the MMC for Region 2, Ald Hannes Coetzee.
We arrived at an opportune time because our teams were already preparing to switch back the water supply from the plant for treatment and distribution.
The Temba area was without water because of a need to switch off the Water
Treatment Plant for the past ten days.
This was necessitated by the fire that gutted Pyramid Substation, which led to the Rooiwal Waste Water Treatment Plant discharging untreated sewer.
When Pyramid Substation was restored, we could not immediately switch on Temba Water Treatment Plant. However, today, 16 October 2024, Temba Water Treatment Plant is active.
I am happy to report that there is some progress and the team will work
day and night to treat the water.
Running water should be delivered to residents in a couple of days.
I must remind everyone that, while water will be available for general use, it is still not safe for consumption at this stage.
We urge residents to use the water for non-drinking purposes until further notice.
We appreciate your patience during this challenging period.
We will continue to provide updates on the progress as we work to restore full services.
