The South African Social Security Agency (SASSA) welcomes the appointment of Mr Themba Matlou as the Chief Executive Officer with effect from 01 June 2025.

Matlous appointment was confirmed by the Cabinet during its sitting on Wednesday, 28 May 2025.

He joined SASSA 13 years ago as the Regional Executive Manager in Limpopo, then moved to Gauteng and later moved to Mpumalanga, Free State and KwaZulu-Natal in the same capacity, responsible for the management and administration of grants.

In December 2024, he was appointed as an acting CEO until recently.

Matlou has over 25 years of experience in the public sector with a proven track record in the management of grants administration, strategic leadership, financial management, risk compliance and fraud management.

He has held senior positions in the Limpopo Office of the Premier and Mpumalanga Department of Health amongst others.

SASSA staff members at all levels strongly believe and hope that his strong commitment to inclusivity and leadership development will steer the SASSA ship in the right direction and to the promised land for millions of beneficiaries.

We are confident that his leadership will bring the operational focus, governance, and people-centered culture needed to strengthen SASSA whilst ensuring maximum and efficient services to the people.

His ability to foster and bring together people from all walks of life, including key stakeholders will be pivotal in ensuring alignment with key partners and governmental bodies, driving the organisational strategic direction to greater heights, explained SASSA Spokesperson Paseka Letsatsi.
